Evaluation Process

Evaluation of performance a continuous process. It is not based entirely on the formal examination at the end of the course. To be recommended for the award of the diploma, candidates are required to achieve a prescribed standard in the total course work. Evaluation is based essentially on four components:

Assessment of classroom performance

Performance in written work, assignments and problem-solving exercises during each course

Examination at the end of each module

Evaluation of summer training report and internship report

The grades*, grade points and equivalent percentages are as follows:

Award of Diploma

The following are the requirements for passing the examination and award of the diploma:

Attendance:

Every student is normally expected to maintain full attendance in the classes as well as during the field placements. No unauthorised absence from field placement is permitted. When a student is deputed by the Institute to attend a seminar, competition, study tour, or other programme or any relief work, his/her absence on that account will not be counted for the purpose of computing the minimum number of hours of attendance required of him/her.

Examination:

Students must have regular attendance, do all assignments, and pass the examination at the end of each course. In the final evaluation for each course, due consideration is given to the student's contribution to classroom discussions, written reports, reading and other assignments. Minimum passing marks 50%.

Summer Training:

Summer training is an integral part of the course. The students are also assessed on the basis of their performance during this period.

Internship:

Every student is required to do internship. The student decides on the topic of his/her thesis in consultation with the faculty supervisors. They are required to submit the final thesis approved by the faculty supervisors. They are finally assessed by the committee of experts.
